"Couristan Recife Saddle Stitch/TerracottaNatural RugWEAVING A STRONGER TOMORROWFor over 75 years Couristan, Inc. has been a powerful name in the area rug and broadloom industry. Owned by the Couri family for two generations and operated today by brothers George G. Couri, Chairman and Ron J. Couri, CEO and President, the company prides itself on having the most exquisite handmade and power-loomed floor coverings available from anywhere around the world.Founded in 1926 by brothers Basil J. Couri and George J. Couri, and appropriately named ""Couri Brothers,"" the company began its humble beginnings by importing fine handmade area rugs from Persia. According to Ron Couri, Couristan's CEO and President, importing area rugs from Persia was a difficult task. ""I remember listening to my father and uncle's travel stories. First they took a ship to England, then another to the continent. Once in Europe they took the Orient Express and then drove through the desert to Persia. They finally arrived 32 days later. It was quite an adventure.""The first area rugs imported by the company were a few shipments of Sparta Rugs from Smyrna. At the time, the company began affixing ""Couristan"" trademark labels to the back of each and every rug it imported. This mark was composed from the family's surname ""Couri"" and the frequently used suffix ""stan"", referring to the region of small weaving villages in which the company imported its rugs from. The company would quickly begin to broaden its horizons, as well as its area rug offerings by importing rugs from India in 1927.In the 1930's, Couristan began importing handmade hooked rugs from China and braided rugs from Japan. At the time nearly 99 percent of the total production of Japan's floor coverings were being exported to the United States. According to Ron Couri, Couristan was regarded as one of the country's largest importers of Japanese braided rugs from the 1930's to the 1960's. During that time there wasn't much of a market for Oriental-design products in the United States, but through Couristan's ingenuity and extensive design development, the company was able to create a substantial marketplace for handmade Oriental area rugs. The Subdivisions design, from Couristan's popular hand-crafted collection, Progressions, received an America's Magnificent Carpet Award for the category of best handmade area rug in the price range of $0 to $12 (per square foot) . The popular design was chosen by a panel of judges for its affordability, strong palette, unique texture and its ability to be utilized in both a casual and elegant room-setting. Whether you just want to buy aCouristanRecife Saddle Stitch/TerracottaNatural Rug or shop for your entire home, Wayfair has a zillion things home.I purchased this rug for our living room. I was worried it may be too rustic, as it could function as an outdoor rug also, but that was not the case. It looks very nice, and the small pattern makes it look almost solid without looking boring. It just adds enough texture. The beigeyellow pattern in the rust colored rug picks up some of the yellow accents in our room. This is nice. OK. Not thrilled about it, but it works. Using it in garage entry way. Seems very durable.Needed a rug to match one I already had. The customer service rep was most helpful and patient, showing me many choices . Together, we found the perfect rug! Arrived quickly and was just as pictured on this site. Thanks a million for the personal service, Tam!!!SAYS 8FT BY 6 IN, IS ACTUALLY 8FT 9IN ROUND. IF I HAD KNOWN THIS I WOULD HAVE GOT THE 7FT 6IN ROUND RUG. WOULD HAVE LOOKED BETTER.I purchased a set of five matching rugs to be used on my outdoor deck. Although they actually look like the online pictures, I was a bit disappointed that they have no backing....Which allows them to stay ""Wrinkled"". (One rug in particular was packaged so tightly and bent around a cardboard pole that the edge seems to be permanently folded back)....Also....The synthetic fiber locks in moisture from the weather....So they never seem to dry!!I don't hate them....I don't love them....Kind of in the middle!!ordered two...just washed one...it washed up great, back to looking new. it is large and i have it in my kitchen,as i have copper accesories. you could use it in another room with a backer to keep it from shifting. low pile, doesnt show dirt too fast either. These are nice outdoor rugs. I came back for a couple more to round out my outdoor areas. It remains to be seen how durable and easily cleaned they will be. The style is nice......if you don't want too much pattern (common on outdoor rugs). They laid out flat after a couple of hours. These prices were the best for the same product shown elsewhere.I've only had these rugs for a few months, so I didn't comment on durability, cleanability, etc., but so far I am very pleased with the product.I ordered 3 of this same style in different sizes...just about 1 month later, 2 of 3 are completely faded while one is fine - all are on the patio in same location. It looks great outside under by dining chairs and table"
