Never saw a broke one, and I have seen a lot of these around. I keep a longer chain in mine. Then I just have the come along body in the tool box. Chain is easy to install, just push it through. So, I have a come along when I need one, and a chain when I don't need a come along. Farm jack handle fits over come along handle. These were used a lot in the early oil field days around here. Rugged open mechanism easy to keep clean. These units must have been popular because I have seen many over my lifetime. I have three Standards and one Heavy Duty unit. It is all worked by manual labor, gravity, no springs or little pieces to come loose. Even the grab hook on the chain is permanent. The part sticking up on the end opposite the handle actually lays flat when in use. It has a slot where you hook your other chain into.
